Our Plans for Dementia Action Week 2021
In previous years Nayland Care has marked Dementia Action Week with something important and meaningful. Dementia is a topic close to our hearts and always in the forefront of our minds. We’ve been wondering how we can mark the occasion this year given the current climate. Although we are delighted that Covid-19 cases are decreasing and restrictions are easing we are still prioritising safety above all else. With this in mind we are deferring our dementia action event to June 2021 (subject to Covid-19 restrictions) so that we can monitor the prevalence of the new variant and risk assess accordingly. We are hopeful that by this time the risk of transmission is even lower than it is now. It will also give extra time for those attending to have their second dose of the vaccine.
We are intending to run an interactive training session related to dementia awareness on Thursday 24th June 2021. The event will be held at our head office in Stutton and will comprise of two sessions. One session will run in the morning between 9am – 1pm and an afternoon session between 1:30pm – 5:30pm. Each session will be delivered by our experienced and qualified in house trainers Chelsey and Tracey who will be sure to make this a fun, interactive and informative event. The sessions will cover:
- What is dementia and how it affects the brain
- How dementia affects the brain and daily living tasks
- How to communicate effectively with someone who has dementia
- How someone with dementia may perceive their environment
- How to identify potential triggers of distress in someones home
- How to show empathy and compassion to someone who is displaying distressed behaviour
We welcome staff and relatives of people we support to join us for our dementia action day on Thursday 24th June. Please contact Tracey or Chelsey on 01473 550481 for more information. This truly is an event not to be missed if you are involved in supporting someone with dementia in a formal or informal capacity.
